The Great Conversation: Family Life, Home Education, and God

Every great idea has been handed down by someone who first received it as a gift.

In 2025–2026, CHECH families spent the year inside the Great Conversation: the long dialogue between thinkers, writers, and saints across the centuries, each one building on what came before. A home education is not a solitary project. It is a household joining a conversation already in progress, one that runs from Boethius and Plato to the dinner table where a child asks a hard question and a parent answers as best they can. This was the year CHECH looked at the home itself as a place where that conversation continues.

Mortimer Adler described the Great Conversation as the thread that binds authors across centuries — each one listening to those who came before and answering in turn.

Why this painting

Raphael's The School of Athens gathers philosophers from centuries apart into a single room, mid-argument, mid-thought, still listening to one another. Plato and Aristotle walk at the center, disagreeing productively. Around them, generations of thinkers who never shared a lifetime share a conversation anyway. It's the clearest image we could find of what the year was actually about: ideas outliving the people who first spoke them, waiting for the next household to pick them up.
